God's commandments - C

So called God's commandments were a way of living that was higher in moral standards than any nation's of that time were. It was also meant to show up our flaws in that we can never be perfect in His ways which if you ask me is pretty arrogant. Religion and His commandments can at times be very burdensome, impossible and inconvenient to keep. All the things we enjoy and are part of everyday life we end up feeling guilty about. Food, sex, money, acknowledgment etc. I've always preferred the golden rule and what ever a man is sowing that he will also reap (Karma and consequences)

C, Yes God's commandments CAN be pretty hard to follow through in our flesh but, if we lean on God, we can do it through having God (his spirit) within us. Also, if you were to prayerfully read the Bible, you would discover that by Jesus' death, we can have those wrong doings covered by his shed blood. I am saying prayerfully read the bible that God would help us to see his word in proper prospective. I don't know how knowledgeable you are re the bible but, if you are curious to know more please check out my blog: www.cheryl-g.blogspot.com. Some of your questions might be answered through it or if you leave a comment, I will get back to you in private. Cheryl :)

C, I agree with you: I've always preferred the golden rule that what ever a man is sowing that he will also reap. Add to this 'Only do to others as you would like others do to you' and you have the fundamentals of a good person. Following in the God of Genesis' footsteps only will give you misery as he started out (according to the Biblical story) putting some horrible curses on two supposedly totally innocent, just off the assembly line people. He then admitted to having made a mistake making man (not very omniscient-like)and committed genocide. From there on it is all downhill. I challenge any practising Christian to go thru the Old Testament with a fine tooth comb and find one single nice, compassionate, benevolent word or deed by God. It is all killing, murder and mass-murder even of his own people by the tens of thousands. Men like Abraham, Moses and David had more compassion than God ever had and they actually gave him a few lessons in it. Abraham even said to God (when he was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah): Far be it from you to do such a thing, etc and then : Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? The only people who sang God's praises in the Old Testament were those who were terrified of him and those who had greatly benefited from him, namely Abraham, David and Solomon, to name just 3. If you want to read heap of good about this God read Paul's Epistles in the new Testament - a man as mad as a peanut religious fundamentalist who in fact twists the truth about a number of Old Testament stories, who considered himself equal to Jesus (his own words, not mine) and pulled Jesus apart and put him back together again to suit himself. Don't forget that the Gospels were written, on average, 100 years after Jesus' death (by strangers, we don't even know their names)who were heavily influenced by Paul's Epistles. Please read your Bible - it's all in what Christian call the "Word of God", but have been screwing around with "God's Word" on a monumental scale in changes, deletions and additions (estimated at at least 20,000). They even talk about Jesus' 'Ministry' and put the word 'Church' into his mouth, while Jesus was a Jew through and through who preached Jewish scriptures in synagogues and had never heard of 'a ministry' or a 'Church'.

It is unfortunate that you feel that way about the Bible. Did you read the reason why God did what he did... The flood happened because of the wickedness of mankind in that day. Noah and his family were the only ones who did what was right. God was very frustrated with the people of Sodom and Gomorrah also and wanted to destroy it. Even Lot perhaps had some issues but because Abraham convinced God to save the city because of as much as 10 righteous, God was willing to do so, but there were not even 10 righteous. Lot, his wife and 2 daughters were taken away from there to a small city that was a safe distance before he destroyed those 2 cities. Even Lots wife perished as she obviously didn't want to leave those sinful cities. If you read, later on Lots 2 daughters made him drunk and had sex with him. Is that right or wrong? There are MANY who benefited from following God in the Old Testament and New. God stands for RIGHTEOUSNESS do you? The bible is about directing people to live a life that is only good.
